After framing is complete, the progress on a house project is not so dramatic, but important stuff is still going on........like putting in the "nervous" system.....otherwise known as the wiring. So, if you've never seen what is behind your finished walls, here's a peek at the nervous system of our house. When Danny (our electrician) has finished his work, we are going to document the heck out of the wiring before the walls get closed up with insulation and drywall.

Wall Plug and Light Switch |

Note the stacked boxes for light switches |
We explored investing in a fancy system to control the lights in the great room area, but the system is very pricey. So, we decided to spend those bucks on something else and will have several stacked "gang" switches to control lights.

More Bruce's Study |
The wall above is common between Bruce's study and the master bedroom. The boxes on the lower part of the wall are located so we can control lights in the master bedroom while reclining
in bed. We found that tip in Susan Lang's house design book while studying up on designing a house.

Master Bathroom Vanity - right |
Another tip from Susan Lang's book was to pay attention to the width of any decorative trim above the bathroom counter when placing an electrical outlet. We worked with Danny to measure the right height for proper clearance with the trim we are using and also had the outlet placed horizontally rather than vertically.

Two of our Bridlewood neighbors are experts in window coverings - they own a Houston business specializing in window treatments and other decorating treatments. They were very generous with their time to help us figure out how to provide for power to remote controlled shades if we ever want to install them. It is so much easier (and cleaner looking) to place power sources when doing the initial wiring. We so appreciate their expert advice in "future proofing" for this potential window feature!!

Monica and Dave at work!!! |
We were visited today by our friends Dan and Jane who have lots of experience in building houses. It was great fun walking them around the house and talking "shop talk" about building. I'm sorry I didn't get a photo of their visit......so they just need to come visit again!!!
We look forward to all of the activity in the coming days and are really enjoying this project.
