Day 88 - The Rainman Cometh

Yippee!!!!  James Riley, our rainwater collection expert, started delivering the equipment and supplies to build our rainwater collection system today.  We are situated so far out in the country we do not have city water.  Drilling a well is very expensive and you never know how bad your well water is going to taste. Some well water requires extensive treatment to make it palatable and to remove the minerals.

So, we are going to rely on Mother Nature to give us a little rain every now and then to fill our two 25,000 gallon water cisterns.  The cisterns are stainless steel and will be located downhill from the house and will be hidden from view by the pool house and the natural slope of the terrain.  The filtration and purification equipment will share quarters with the pool equipment in the pool house.

At the same time, in the house, Danny continued the very labor intensive, detailed job of installing wiring.  His work required climbing up a very, tall ladder.  Gave me the willies to think of climbing up that thing!!

Tall, Scary Ladder

Danny also uses a very big, scary drill to bore holes in the framing timbers to run the wires.

Did you notice the box of cookies to the side of the big drill???  We really appreciate the work the guys are doing on our house and try to take out cookies often.  Here's a shot of the "cookie construction" project at our apartment.

Helping us to look over the house progress today were two sets of visitors.  We love having our friends come out to see the house and to show them the guest room we hope they will use frequently in the future.  Our first visitor today was our friend Anne from Los Alamos, New Mexico.  After we checked out the house action, we went to Wimberley for a little retail therapy.

And our friends, Jeb and Barbara, drove over 300 miles from Nocona, Texas to visit and see the house.  We went in the early evening and the light was beautiful.

Both sets of our friends have daughters living living in Austin, so we feel very lucky they chose to spend some time with us today after their long journeys.
