Day 57 - Running With the Cows

A lot of activity has happened since the last post.  Roof decking, fascia, soffits, additional detailed framing, and sheathing work continued during our blog hiatus.  It is looking like a real house now!!!!

Here's a shot from the time of the last post and a photo from the same angle today.

The roof decking was hammered in place as a first step.  Today the guys were up top screwing the decking in place.

Almost all fascia and soffits are in place, with very little work to left to done on that task.  Eventually, they will be painted shades of brown to coordinate with the rock used on the walls.

There is a lot of progress with both exterior and interior detailed framing.  Here's a shot of the entry way.  Our front door is 42" wide with side lights and a transom window over it.

The pool house is also looking more like a real structure with sheathing on the walls and the porch overhang in place.

The spots for the guest shower and master tub have been framed.  I am looking forward to seeing bathroom fixtures, hardware, tiles and flooring in these rooms.  It's been fun selecting these items.  In fact, tomorrow we are meeting with our interior designer to go over our final selections for the kitchen and bathrooms (except for lighting..........which is a scary selection.)

One bit of framing has shown the importance of clear communication with the builders. I spoke with our builders about a change in my study, but didn't put it in writing.  These guys have so much to remember and this specific change unfortunately did not get communicated with the framers.  The plans called for shelves to take advantage of recessed space underneath the stairs.  The original plan had the shelves stopping about halfway down and then wallboard. I decided I preferred the shelves all the way to the floor.  The picture below shows open space above the horizontal board, but 2 by 4 boards below.  There won't be much work to tear out, but it could have been something more complicated.

Will be Bookshelves to the Floor
As we were leaving Bridlewood today, we joined part of the herd heading across the road and into a field for dinner.  We were running  with the cows!!!!
