Day 59 - Go with the Flow

Living in Texas, one of the most important systems in a house is the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning  (HVAC) system.  The location of the equipment, ducts, vents, return air intake, and thermostats need careful planning.  Today we did the HVAC planning walk with our builders and HVAC expert, Glenn Bomnskie of Airtran Heating and Air Conditioning.

AC equipment will be placed above these rafters
It was a very informative walk learning about air flow throughout the house.  Most locations for vents and return air intake were no-brainers,  but there were a few tricky spots.  Glen and Casey worked with us to determine locations with the minimal impact to the aesthetics of the house.  Of course, the big equipment is hidden in the attic.  The larger of two units will be located above the kitchen area.  A tricky spot was in the upstairs bathroom since there wasn't much room to run equipment.  I had to give up a few inches of a bathtub shelf.  Since this is a guest room, the guys suggested I use hotel sized toiletries for our guests.  Very funny, guys!!!!!!

Tyvek was put up today in places that required more precision than the broad flat walls.

The truly big news of the day was the delivery of windows for the house.  We spent a lot of time researching the brand and style of windows for every part of the house.  It was very, very exciting to see these critical components of the house arrive today.
Window Delivery Guys
We selected a number of types of windows in several different sizes and configurations: double hung, horizontal sliders, fixed, transomes, curved top, square, rectangular........
Many windows
Even more windows
Here's the house from a different perspective this afternoon.  Note the dead tree on the right.  We've kept a number of these tree remnants on the property since they are great habitats for certain kinds of critters.

Furry Friend of the Day
When we were driving to the build site this afternoon, we saw another of our furry friends on the side of the road.  This is Hunter Miller who lives with his human caretakers and a number of other furry friends who you have previously met on this blog.  As you can see, Hunter, is a goat.  However, he forgets he is a goat and spends most of his time hanging out with the longhorn cattle!!!!
