Day 58 - It's a Powerful Thing

We accomplished a big milestone today......... approving a set of interior selections with our designer, Toi.  We have many other selections and decisions to make, but our first set of work with Toi covered many important choices.  Below is a shot of the wood floor selection and tile trim for the kitchen.  The scary lighting choices are next on the docket - with lots of help from Toi and Johnny, the lighting specialist at Ferguson's in San Antonio.

While we were in San Antonio, the action continued at the build site.  Below is a little retrospective of previous work to set the stage for a really big deal that happened today.  Last August, the electric company came out to bring power from the road closer to our build site.  First the pathway from the road to the build site had to be cleared.  A crew came out to survey and clear a 20 feet wide path for the line.

Then in September, the power company returned to put in the poles and string the line to a pole close to the house site.

Going Up in the Bucket
Today the meter was finally put into place bringing a line for the building crew to use during construction.  This structure is called a t-pole.  Until today, the workers have been using generators to power their equipment.

Power to House
The front entry underwent further refinement today with detail framing of the walls next to the door/window section.

And the wood on the underside of the porch was installed.  The beams will be stained a darker brown later.

The crew started the job of "drying in" the roof by covering the roof decking with another layer of material.

It Was NOT Windy Today - Whew!!
The house progress is moving along very rapidly due to the hard work of the crews, the scheduling of the builders, and NO RAIN.  We would happily sacrifice schedule for rain, but the weather is not a variable anyone can control.

Furry Friend of the Day - Progress Report

You've previously met one of our furry friends, a feral kitty named Skeeter.  We have had fun watching Skeeter grow from a kitten to a full grown cat.  He is a frequent visitor with a voracious appetite for his free meals!!  The left photo was taken in November and the right photo was taken this evening after Skeeter was full from a big dinner!!!!!
