Day 36 - Buddy System

Bruce, PJ, Gary on their back porch
When we were doing our research to find a builder, our friends PJ and Gary were also looking to find a builder in the same general area.  We both selected Mattern & Fitzgerald to build our houses.  Their house is in the Canyon Lake area and they are a few months ahead of us in their project.  It has been interesting to compare notes during our different stages of the design and construction process.  This weekend we "toured" our respective build sites.  We had a lot of fun showing each other our developing homes.

Here's a shot of Bruce, PJ, and Gary on our back porch standing between the back door and the outside entrance to the powder room/pool bath.

As you can see, the day warmed up quite a bit from morning to afternoon!

After the weekend off, our crew came back today and worked hard at framing the house.  They put up so many pieces of wood to brace the the walls that the structure started to look like a bowl of pasta.

The crew built temporary scaffolding out of available lumber and walked along it to reach high spots.  I really admire the great balance and agility of these framers.  They reminded me of cats walking along the boards.

By the end of last week, the basic outline of one side of the house had been completed.  Today, the basic timbers on the garage end of the house went up.

A very interesting section of framing is for the coffered ceiling in the master bedroom.  Right now it looks like a big open box.

The crew started on framing the back porch and fireplace area giving us a good perspective of the entire envelope of the house. The edge of the porch will have stone walls with curved archways out to the pool.

It will be fun to go there tomorrow and see the progress.

Furry Friend of the Day

You have met Bailey B, a cool cat.  Today, I'd like to introduce Bailey M, a cool dog.  Bailey lives with her human family, 3 other dogs, and lots of other animals on the Rockin' M ranch.  You've met two of her doggie sisters, Maggie and Molly, in an earlier post.  Bailey likes hangin' with her human Mom and running around her pretty lawn.  She's lots of fun at parties.
