Day 38 - Rainy Day Plans

It drizzled all day bringing much needed moisture to this dry area.  Even though the weather stopped work on our house, we don't mind in the least.  We have been planning this house for a very long time and a day of rain isn't going to make a difference in our schedule.

Since we have never been involved in building a custom home, we had a lot to learn.  And being "bookish" people, we bought lots of reference material to study.

We read books on house building.

A Few of Our Reference Books

Since we intend (and hope) to stay in this house for the rest of our lives, we read up on universal design.

We subscribed to lots of house magazines and tore out pages to remember ideas and to give our architect, Leslie Anderson of MSA Architecture in San Antonio, a sense of our personal taste.

We bought specialty publications to get ideas for specific rooms in our house.

Using Susan Lang's book, Designing Your Dream Home, we set up notebooks to help keep all of the details organized.

We met Leslie, our architect, during our first meeting with Mattern & Fitzgerald, our builders.  M&F has built many of Leslie's designs and we decided to hire them as a team.  We spent many months working with Leslie to capture all of our requirements and desires in our house plans.  We went through quite a few versions of our plan.  Leslie was great and she designed a beautiful house for us.

So, here we are after 38 days of construction.  We still have lots of decisions to make and many things to select.  It's been fun so far and we are looking forward to our next steps.
