Day 39 - Featured Attractions

As the work progresses on framing our house, some of the larger details of the plan are appearing.  It is very exciting to see the three dimensional product of our architectural drawings.

The ceiling in a great room is quite high - 18 feet.  So, three clerestory windows are positioned high on the wall to let in light.

Another feature that really came into clearer focus today is the curved banquette area.  This area is designed to provide a place for a round table that is a family heirloom.

The framing has shaped up the vaulted ceiling in Bruce's study and the rafters of the roof are also up in that part of the house.

While many times not the most interesting part of a house, the garage is a very important space.  Since we are living in the country, it will hold all sorts of tools and equipment for taking care of the property.  Here is a shot of the rafters being shaped for the first of three garage bays.

On the back left corner of the porch, the outdoor fireplace area is starting to take shape.  The newly framed pool house is in the background.

On the baking center counter side of the kitchen, we planned a pass through window to get food out to the gas grill and outdoor kitchen.  We decided to test the window space today.

Here's what is in my hands:

The guys working on framing our house are working so hard that we take treats out to them almost every day.  I love to bake and food is a great communicator!

Here's a final shot of the house today.  It is amazing to see the density of the wood standing up on the foundation.  Can't wait to see it tomorrow!!!

Lots of wood!!!
Featured Flora of the Day
Today when Bruce was walking around the property he came upon the first mountain laurel bloom of the season.  Our lot has many many mountain laurels and they are gorgeous in the spring when they are blooming.
